European GT Tour by Bart de Jong

It doesn¹t happen every day that a bunch of American GT riders make it over to Europe to do some riding. Actually it has been since 1986 that GT riders have done a European tour. Back then Eddie Fiola and Dave Breed opened up eyes on the infamous GT World Tour. Since the riders have such a busy schedule during the summer months with all the contests and shows they do, it was decided to bring them over in the fall to do some skatepark riding. Available for the trip were: Dave Voelker, Rob Nolli, Kevin Gutierrez, Tom Haugen and Kip Williamson who was filming the tour for the new GT freestyle video. The plan was to visit 10 skateparks and do 2 shows in 5 countries in 10 days. That meant that we had to drive 4000 kilometres to pull it off.  On the program were mostly indoor parks because at this time of the year you never know what the weather does. More

We heard that Karim Amour is leaving the Vouilloz-Racing Team for a new ride with Diamondback. The free place in the Vuouilloz Team will be filled by Downhill, Dual and BMX rider Michael Deldycke who rode the 2000 season for Taillefer and the france TV superstar and nice guy, formerly sunn rider Stephan Jany.

Annabella Stropparo came over from Volvo Cannondale and joins Dutch national champion Corine Dorland( BMX worldchampion and extremly good looking) in women’s cross-country. Bas de Bever resigned for Be One. De Bever who had an extremely good year in 2000 with several podium places has his whole year been connected to Team Be One. And will continue racing on the orange bike together with French top-talent Mickaël Pascal, who will continue to look for his first World cup win in 2001.

Thomas Allier crowned 2000 Invert Champion

The invert vertical sports carnival was back in Anaheim, Ca this year with a bigger and better show. With 6 pro competitions going on and over 100 companies with displays, there was something for everyone. One of the most exciting events of the Carnival was the Pro Sprint Trials. 40 of the worlds top Pro BMX racers were in attendance to chase after the $4000 first place prize and over $10,000 total pro purse. With an awesome track layout designed by Robbie Miranda and Todd Corbitt, the invert sprint course was going to offer some great racing, With a 25ft steep staring ramp, racers would mostly rely on keeping smooth and pumping the double jumps that lined the course. Very little pedaling was required, so it was all about skill. Christophe Leveque was the top qualifier with Thomas Allier close behind. When the brackets in the head to head formatted race went up, there was some intense racing. Early rounds included Brian Lopes against Leveque and Allier against

Robert MacPherson. As the rounds passed, the stand out riders were Allier, Leveque, Florent Boutte, Wade Bootes, Kyle Bennett and Robert Dewilde. When the last 4 riders stood, it was to be Leveque Vs Bennett, and Allier Vs Dewilde. As both races went off, Leveque was slightly edged out by Bennett, and Allier took a commanding victory over Dewilde. When the final round started, Allier let Bennett know who was boss from the stat, as he took a large lead just after the start and dominated the first of 2 rounds. In the 2nd Rounds, Allier once again proved his power and Skill and took the win, as well as the Overall victory! Thomas added one more tittle to his best pro racing season ever, with the NBL #1 Pro title and UCI World Championship.

John Parker is 2000 Invert Champion

20 of the worlds top pro vert riders were in attendance to chase after the $4000 first place prize and over $10,000 total pro purse.Hot Wheels/GT's John Parker was one of the crowd favorites from the beginning of practice, and he wasn't about to let his fans down. John unleashed a full bag of tricks in the finals The format was a one minute run, and then a 25 minute jam, where the ten finalists took turns to out do each other. At the end of the jam, it was evident to all that it was between John and Kevin Robinson/Hoffman Bikes for the overall win. John was looking to better his 2nd place finish from Invert last year, and when the judges scores were tallied up and announced, John had done just that, taking the invert pro vert title home for 2000.

Brian Lopes, has just negotiated an agreement with GT

Brian Lopes, has just negotiated an agreement with GT to be his exclusive bicycle sponsor commencing January 2001. Lopes is breaking out of the typical mountain bike racing mold where nearly all the top ranked riders are associated with a big team. He will be competing as an individual, independent rider, under a program he has created with his own sponsors. His team will be called GT-Fox. Lopes is the current World Cup Dual Champion and a resident of Laguna Beach California, just a few miles from GT world headquarters. Lopes is eager to climb aboard GT's I-Drives and to be riding what he called "the best riding full suspension bikes in the world."  Last year Lopes was out training with Team GT's Katja Repo doing some downhill runs. He jumped on her bike for one of the runs and after just the first section stopped, exclaiming  " Wow! Are you sure this is a downhill bike? The pedaling is unbelievable!" Lopes' other sponsors include, Fox Clothing, Oakley, Shimano, Rock Shox, Bell, Maxxis, THE and  Alpinestars. His schedule will include the World Cup and NORBA events where he will focus on the Dual and take in some downhill action as well. He will also race with the GT BMX team for the Vans Triple Crown series and select Nationals.

Team GT signs Dunlap, Barel and Emmett

Team GT s pleased to announce that deals have been agreed to for the return of 2000 team members Alison Dunlap and Fabien Barel and for newcomer Kelli Emmett. All of the riders have made two-year deals. Alison Dunlap 30,.  Dunlap experienced her best season ever in 2000 finishing 2nd overall in the World Cup Cross-Country Standings. Fabien Barel 21, Nice, France. This French phenom reemerged in 2000 after an injury kept him sidelined for most of 1999. Barel won the World Cup Downhill at Mt. St. Anne and the NORBA final at Mammoth.  He gave everyone a glimpse of his potential at Mammoth where he decimated the competition finishing over 9 seconds in front of 2nd place.  Fabien will be racing a full world cup schedule along with other events like the NORBA series in the USA and Avalanche Cup in France and will be competing in both downhill and dual. Kelli Emmett 23,. Emmett turned pro in 2000 after capturing the Expert National Cross-Country Championship title in 1999. Dunlap, Barel, and Emmett will be joining current Team GT members Steve Peat, Katja Repo and Roel Paulissen for 2001.
