Thomas Allier switches over to Mountain Bike races
Thomas Allier- GT/ChevyTracker decided to skip the ABA Phoenix BMX national event and compete in his first Pro Dual slalom race. Thomas did exceptionally well. But he did have a few things working against him, as he received his race bike just days before the event, and had never raced a dual slalom event before, as well as racing against the worlds top Dual racers. Thomas qualified 21st, but was knocked out of the 1st round by Gary Houseman-Tomac. Thomas also raced the Mountain Cross race and had qualified high once again, but was knocked out in the ¼ Final by Gracia and carter. Will Thomas make the switch over to more Mountain Bike races? With a little practice, he could be very competitive and extremely dangerous.
Sea Otter Classic Dual Slalom and Mountain Cross

Monterey, CA March 18-19, 2001-The Sea Otter Classic is the kick off for the US Mountain bike-racing season. It is the most anticipated event of the year, as all the new teams assemble for the first time, riders have their new bikes, and the media is hungry for info and photos. One of the high lights is to capture the past year world and national champions and Wade Bootes was one of the most sought after riders for media coverage for the weekend. Coming off his best MTB and BMX season ever, the 2000 UCI Dual World Champion and ABA#1 BMX Pro, Wade Bootes set things off early as he Qualified for the Dual Slalom race 1st overall. Wade set the stage for a repeat of last years event, which he won, as he went through the best riders in the sport. He started out against Rich Houseman-Tomac, then to Mike King-Haro, and next Eric Carter-Mongoose. Wade would meet up with Brian Lopes-Fox/GT in the final. The best 2 riders in

Dual slalom were ready to go against each other and the crowd was screaming for the race action. In round one, Lopes had the faster of the 2 courses, and barely edged Wade out by .13 of a second. When the 2nd run started, Bootes put all his power into his Trek Fuel bike and was looking to be able to overcome the time deficit, until he hit one of the last turns way too fast and slid out, letting lopes catch up and win the event overall. Wade was a bit dejected, but felt positive that his off season training has put him right where he needs to be, to win a lot of Dual Slalom races this season. This has been quite apparent; as Wade has already stacked up 2 AA pro BMX wins. A new addition to the Sea Otter schedule, Mountain Cross, mixed the aspects of Dual slalom and BMX racing. 4 riders would race at a time down a steep course lined with huge jumps, stutter sections, and high-speed decision-making areas. Eric Carter has be the driving force behind this new type of Racing and was the course designer. Wade once again proved his skills, as he was the fastest qualifier and walked through his mottos. The main event was an all-star shootout, as it was Wade, Brian Lopes, Cedric Gracia-Volvo/Cannondale, and Sean McCarroll-Global Racing. When the gate dropped for the final wade was instantly cut off by Gracia, as Cedric came out of the gate a little crooked, giving Lopes that advantage to take off. Wade and the other 2 riders would have one of the best battles down the rest of the course, with side by side, clean racing action. Wade wound up just coming short of 2nd by mere inches at the finish line, and settled for 3rd. The race was hailed a huge success and Wade looks forward to future events of this style.

ABA Winter Nationals Phoenix, AZ March 24-25

Stop #6 of the 2001 ABA National Pro Tour was held this past weekend under beautiful skies, in warm temperatures, and on a challenging, newly designed race track. Since this was the first big outdoor race in warm, perfect conditions, it was physically demanding for the riders to stay in top form for both days of exciting and fast AA racing. Phoenix is known for some great racing, and the 2001 winter nationals did not disappoint anyone in attendance! Here is how the Double A Marketing riders in attendance finished up in the main events. Christophe Leveque is a rider that people expect to do well, but he blew away all expectations on Sunday, as he did not lose one race he entered all day. Christophe holeshoted every motto and qualifier. Once the mains started, he did not stop and actually turned it up a notch, as he won all 3 AA mains and Pro Open races with huge leads. On Saturday Christophe was in both AA and Open mains as well, and a 4th in AA and 7th in Open were his finishes. Warwick Stevenson turned a lot of heads and kept all eyes on him in Phoenix. Warwick was one of the fastest riders on the track both days, as his 2 extremely impressive 2nd
place AA race results show. On Saturday, Warwick also dropped jaws as he holeshoted the Pro Open main and kept pulling away from the pack the entire lap on his way to a huge Pro win. This was the best Pro race weekend ever for young Podge! Jamie Staff continues to churn out great AA race results, and Phoenix was just another stop on his run for a pro title. Saturday had Jamie in both the AA and Pro Open main events, and he once again stood upon the podium in AA with a 3rd overall. Pro Open was not as nice to Jamie this weekend. A 8th on Saturday and 7th on Sunday, may not look super impressive, but just making these mains was a huge accomplishment and Jamie did it with ease. Randy Stumpfhauser had an up and down weekend in Phoenix. Randy was flying around the track in all his motos and qualifiers on Saturday, but wound up flying off the track in the Pro Cruiser main, as a crash in the first turn left him no place but up and over turn number one. Still a bit dazed, Randy came back and attacked the Pro Open main and left with 6th place overall. Look for randy to standout at the next national with a new psyche and a surprise on his bike! Robert MacPherson stuck to racing only AA pro this weekend and it paid off as he was in the toughest main to make in BMX on Sunday. Big Mac has had some bad history with the Phoenix track, but he put that all behind him as he was one of the elite 8 pros to ride the AA main. Robert placed 8th overall, but be on the lookout for a top finish from him in the upcoming weekends. Matt Hadan once again made it atop the podium at a pro national event. This time it was in the Pro Cruiser main on Saturday with a 3rd place finish. The Diesel did have his thoughts elsewhere on Sunday, as his team mate, Jason Carnes had to visit the hospital, as a crash gave Jason a nasty little Phoenix souvenir, a broken collarbone.
Global Racing on the Podium of Every Event

Laguna Seca, Calif (24-25 March, 2001)  - The racing premiere of the Global racing Team at the Mercury Sea Otter Classic was a mixture of sparkling riding and inspired performances. Global riders climbed the podium in each of the events they entered, as well as many other top ten results. Missy Giove took second in the dual slalom; Sean McCarroll took second in the mountain cross; and Greg Minnaar placed third in the downhill and fourth in the dual slalom! The Sea Otter Classic has become the traditional opener of the international mountain biking season. Sean McCarroll excelled in the electric action of the 4-up mountain cross, where he finished second. In the supercharged final he found himself back in fourth behind dual slalom world champ, Wade Bootes. But an inspired pass on a hard right hander put Sean onto the wheel of  Cedric Gracia, and the crowd went wild as “The Bomber” charged into second place around the final berm (Brian Lopes won it with sheer brilliance). Sean commented: “I definitely want to do more of these 4-up events! In the second half it was all about the power left in your legs and for the one behind it’s always easier to get motivated.” In the dual slalom Sean was eliminated in the second round by Brian Lopes, and in the downhill he was seventh. Missy Giove, just returning from her pre-season knee injuries, decided not to risk re-injury in the uncharted terrain of the daredevil mountain cross. In the dual slalom she beat Katrina Miller in the semi-final and narrowly lost to A-C Chausson in the final. Missy said: “It’s my first race back. The final was exciting, I never raced against Anne-Caroline in a dual event. I would like to do more dual and dual slalom this year.” Missy took her chances in downhill, crashed and finished 15th. Greg Minnaar hit top form in Sunday’s downhill with a third place. The mainly-flat course demanded pedalling power, which Greg always claims is his weakness. Even so, he thought he could have done better: “I have a bit of a cold and can’t breathe well with all this pedalling. Also my helmet moved so I could not see much for a while.” Greg qualified sixth in the dual slalom, kicked out Karim Amour in the second round and Kirt Vories in the third, then narrowly lost to Brian Lopes in the semi-final and to Eric Carter in the consolation final to finish fourth. He was the one of the few out there on a hardtail bike, an Orange MsIsle. In the mountain cross he qualified eighth and made it to the quarter-final. Mick Hannah is the junior on the team and was not scheduled to race in all the World Cup events. After his performance this weekend he is traveling everywhere! He won the first quarter-final against Brian Lopes. The “kids of the southern hemisphere” did not let Lopes off easy in the DS this time! Mick: “I had to touch the breaks somewhere but I can’t remember…” It was also his first dual slalom event ever! Mick came in ninth among all the big guys in downhill and qualified 11th in mountain cross. Marielle Saner had her best performance of the weekend in the downhill, where she got sixth. “I am satisfied. I made a mistake and lost speed just before the flat part so it could have been even better.” Marielle had the bad luck to meet Missy in the first round of the dual slalom: “It was my first time to race against a teammate, too bad only one of us got the chance to advance…” Markolf Berchtold’s highlight of the weekend was the downhill. He was 12th in the strong international field. He said: “I had a good start and ended in a bad line at the double jump in the middle of the course. This was a good start of the season.” Markolf also qualified for both dual slalom and mountain cross but did not make it into the second rounds. Naoki Idegawa was happy with his clean and flawless downhill run which took him to a 24th spot. Daisaku Kaneko started his season well with a 28th spot in the downhill, enough to find motivation for the training weeks to follow before the next races. Cesar Rojo had the kind of week he would wish on nobody. He crashed hard on the Friday’s mountain cross practice, and although he walked away with no broken bones he was not fit for competition.

Carmichael Wins His Eighth Straight At The Astrodome
Houston, Texas. - It took a while for Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael to move into the lead that would result in his eighth-straight win in EA SPORTS Supercross. Team Husqvarna’s Travis Preston pulled off his first 125cc supercross win in one of the most dramatic finishes ever. Starting in fifth place in the 250cc Main Event, Carmichael, Havana, Fla., worked his way through the pack and captured his ninth win of the season and extended his series points lead to 32. Team Yamaha’s Tim Ferry won the $1,000 SFX.com Holeshot Award. Kevin Windham of Team Suzuki led for six laps before surrendering to Carmichael. Seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath worked his way through the field to finish second and Mike LaRocco finished third. “I have been getting great starts but not tonight,” said Carmichael. “It’s always better to come from behind and get the win. This season is going great and I hope to continue this throughout the season.”
Be One Team riders in front in opening races
Pontevedra (Esp) – In the first race of the Spanish Cup, Oscar Saiz took the win with a confident lead to the number two. It was his first race of the season on a down hill course. In the Dual race Saiz got 2nd. In the Netherlands, Dorland took the win in two national races. Dorland is preparing for Napa, the first World Cup, in the beginning of April. “I’m very happy with this win in my first race for Be One Team. They have given me the confidence by signing me for season 2001 and with these results I can give Be One something back”, Saiz said after the race. “I’m really enjoying my new bike, I feel very confident with it”. Dorland proved her intentions for coming season in her first national races. In the first
race, a day after she returned from trainingcamp, she couldn’t find her rhythm in the beginning of the race. But in the last rounds she got the speed and headed for a confident lead. “A good season start is always important for a rider, also when you keep in mind that the first World Cup is within a few weeks”, Dorland said after her win. Saiz and Dorland have drawn a lot of media attention lately. Saiz is on the cover of the Mountainbike Downhill magazine, issue 2 2001 and Dorland is to be seen in a two page interview with Sport International (a prominent Dutch magazine). Together with Saiz and Dorland, other Be One riders have also been in the picture. With top 5 places, Bakker, Al and Stropparo have shown their early shape. The first big race for the cross country riders will be Napa, UCI World Cup I. The downhill riders will travel to Spain next week to do a race over there in their preparations for their World Cup season.

Leigh DONOVAN is retiring at the end of the season
CAPISTRANO BEACH, CA -- (LipStikPR Newswire)-- March 16, 2001-The 2001 Mountain Bike racing season will be the last time you will be able to see Leigh Donovan race as a professional. Leigh is retiring at the end of the season, which ends in Vail, Co. USA, at the 11 th World Mountain Bike championships. Her season is being phrased as the "LEIGH DONOVAN'S ALMOST A DECADE WORLD RETIREMENT TOUR". Make sure you get one of the high quality custom T-shirts made by Redsand clothing.
Leigh began her racing career as a teen in the sport of BMX, where she became a multinational champion rider in the girls' class and even won a few races against the guys. Leigh left racing behind for a while until she discovered her fascination with another type of racing-Mountain Bike Racing. In 1992, she began in the beginner class and by the end of the season was racing Pro, beating the likes of Missy Giove. In 1993 Leigh was signed to her first Pro Team (Team Iron Horse). Through the years Leigh has ridden for Pro Teams including-Diamond Back, Mongoose, Intense Cycles and finally-SCHWINN Cycling. Leigh's career has been a fascinating one and a record making one. In 1995 Leigh became the only person to ever win the US Downhill Series Championship, the US Slalom Championship and ultimately the 1995 Downhill World Championship (which has still has not been accomplished). 1996 saw more titles and a near miss at the 1996 World Downhill Championship when defending champ Donovan lost a 2nd world title by .18 seconds. Since 1995 Leigh has won more U.S. Championships than any other female mountain bike rider, all disciplines included (dh, dual, and dh) Leigh's accomplishments don't end on the race course. Leigh has been a NORBA board member for 4 years, helping to steer the sport along. Leigh has also been the grand marshal on many rides to benefit some noteworthy causes. Leigh has assisted many athletes in becoming better racers, Leigh also created her own team in 1999 with Intense Cycles. When her current sponsor at the time backed out on future plans, Leigh was left with nothing. So she brought it upon herself to make things happen and created a team on her own. This caught the eye of Team SCHWINN Manager Susan Dibiase who eventually signed her to the team in 2000. The last few years have seen riders from the "First Generation" of mountain bike racing retire, people like, Susan Demattei, John Tomac, Greg Herbold and the like. With Leigh departing the scene at the end of 2001 She will be the first of the "Second Generation" of Mountain Bike stars to move on to new ventures. Leigh sums up her decision by saying..."I have had the best time in my 9 years as a pro, and I have been so lucky. I was just saying today how I can not believe, that to this day bike parts and accessories just show up at my house, that is such a cool thing! (laughs) I know it sounds stupid, but I just can't believe mountain biking has got me to this point in my life. If only everyone could do something as fun and as enjoyable as this, and make a life from it, I think we would all be happier people. On to the retirement thing (laughs), It's just my time to go, that's about all it is. I don't have a specific reason, I still love getting into the start gate, I still want to win, I still get nervous, I still love the fans, I still love the industry people, I still "like" sitting on a airplane headed to outrageous places, but something inside is telling me, "this is it". I want to do really well this year, I have been training harder than ever and I feel really great, relaxed, strong and ready for the long season, ya know, my goal has always been to have fun and surely this year will be no exception. Lots of people to thank, but it isn't over yet, come see me in Vail at the big party!" Leigh is not sure what she will do after racing, perhaps staying in the industry, or maybe getting completely out of it. Leigh has been working part time at a flower shop this winter with thoughts of owning it for herself, But Leigh would really hate to leave the sport she loves, but is also finding pleasure in the so called "real" world. "Yeah, I have been spending a few hours a week at a local flower shop and boutique in San Juan Capistrano, it was my favorite store to shop at, then one day I saw a sign out front for help, I applied and she hired me, now I have been tossing around the idea of owning my own shop, but I have not been putting too much energy into it, as My coach Stephane has me training way too hard to think about anything else! I would love to stay involved with the bicycle industry, but it is not a requirement. It would suck to have 20-something years of riding and racing bikes go down the drain, I feel I have a lot to offer, but my only mission now is to race the best I can and I can think about that afterwards, Bike racing has been so good to me that I can have some time to think when its over."

Another win for Carmichael
Minneapolis, Minn. - For the seventh-straight time in the 2001 season of EA SPORTS Supercross, Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael, Havana, Fla., earned a victory in the 250cc class at the Metrodome. Seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath, Encinitas, Calif., garnished second place. Team Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana, Annapolis, Md., returned to the number-one position in 125cc season points standings with a dominate win, while Team Yamaha of Troy/Fox’s Nathan Ramsey, who led the series coming into this event, went down in the first turn and started the race dead last. It was another fast start for Carmichael as he won the $1,000 Holeshot Award with Yamaha’s Timmy Ferry, Largo, Fla., in tow. The real battle was for second place where Ferry, McGrath, and Team Honda/Universal Studio’s Ezra Lusk would duke it out for the better half of 10 laps. McGrath, riding his Team Mazda/Yamaha, moved around Ferry then was passed by Lusk, who would later crash out of position, giving the lead back to McGrath. McGrath finished second and Mike LaRocco was third.

Stuart Tompson: Stuart is current British Junior Downhill , Dual and Downhill series Champion .He is fresh from the Scottish Highlands. After years of  Motorbike trials riding Stuart has brought those skills into his Mountain biking. He and Richard will be competing in the European World Cup races in 2001 and depending on results may go to the states to race. It will be Stuart's 1st pro season and I expect great results. Marc Beaumont: Marc is a new addition to Royal coming from the youth ranks where he was on the podium every week. He will compete in the junior category in 2001 and we expect lots more  podium finishes and even an overall title. Nibbs Kellet: Nibbs races in the vet category and in 2000 he racked up an impressive year with only 2 second place finishes and the rest were all 1st places. With this record we are assured podium appearances every week and good exposure in the mag's. Jamie Tompkins. Jamie will be Co-sponsored by Royal in 2001 and is a hope full for being the UK's 1st World Champion in the junior ranks. All 4 of these boys are excellent Dirt jumpers and are fully approachable by any magazine. All the riders are hand picked by Steve Peat himself.

New racing dates for Germany from FIRM
We got some new dates for Germany, check it out!!!
Hot Chili World Cup frame

The World Cup frame has been for 2001 completely redesigned. The frame has exceeded all expectations at bench tests. The first "road test ”in German Downhill Cup and straight off, a victory. The concept of the main frame is based on an absolutely new developed mixture using conified tubes and special profiles. This mixture guarantees enormous stiffness at only 4.200 g (without rear shock). Adjustable travel is variable

between 190 and 230 mm. Extrem travel of Shock Works DH RC (70 mm) minimizes motion ratio and allows sensitive adjustment of compression and rebound damping. With this frame we have reached an excellent lateral stiffness which ensures that it has a fantastic torsional rigidity. All bearings are oversized and modified due to the high stress at downhills.Rear triangle allows the use of tyres up to 3".Dropouts are exchangeable and adjustable. This allows to adjust the bike on every DH-course.
Royal
Steve Peat gave us some quotes about Royal: “At the moment we are just getting a Distributer in the Uk.They are going to be covering Europe. Royal is getting really good followings in the UK, and we now have a USA distributer and a Team. The new race clothing will be available with in the next Month so you should see it in the mags soon. The Uk team is gettin bigger but they will be riding Orange bikes for 2001.”
NBL Golden State Nationals March 10-11,2001

The weather is always a big part of BMX, and the last few weeks in California made it look as if this NBL race may not even happen. But with a few nice days this week, a lot of track maintenance from the Sun Valley staff, and a beautiful weekend, the NBL race was a great success! Stop #3 of the NBL pro tour was a great weekend and the huge AA pro class made for some great racing. Here is how the Double A Marketing Riders in attendance finished up in the main events. Jamie Staff returned from England on Friday night and proceeded to keep on flying once he got to the NBL race. After 24 hours of traveling, Jamie was race ready. Jamie placed 2nd in both AA and Open on Saturday. Come Sunday morning, with a little more sleep Jamie was up to full speed and proceeded to rule the AA class, placing 1st. A scary crash in Pro Open gave him last, but he was OK! Thomas Allier can't be stopped! Once again, Thomas took a huge win in AA on Saturday, as well as a 7th in Pro Open. Come Sunday, Thomas was once again victorious, this time in Pro Open and he also finished 3rd in AA. This makes 3 AA wins in NBL so far for 2001. Christophe Leveque can sometimes make the incredibly fast pro class look slow. He did just that in Sun Valley with a huge win in Pro Open on Saturday. On Sunday, Christophe was in both the AA and Open main but a crash in each held him back to 6th in AA and 5th in Open. Warwick Stevenson has been riding super fast in 2001 and Burbank was no exception. On Sunday, Podge was in Both the AA and Pro Open mains. In AA, Warwick powered his way around the track for a huge 2nd place finish and then he backed it up with a 3rd in Open. Randy Stumpfhauser has been bringing home some great finishes in 2001, and Sun Valley added up a few more for him. On Saturday and Sunday, Stumpy placed 2nd in Pro Cruiser. Matt Hadan once again proved his speed and agility as he romped on the pro cruiser class with a 4th place finish on Saturday and Sunday. Florent Boutte has been training hard this season with Thomas Allier and it showed off in Sun Valley. Florent was in the Pro Open main on Sunday where he placed 6th.

ABA Southwest Nationals March 10-11

Race #5 on the ABA Pro tour takes the riders out to El Paso, TX for the South West Nationals. A long track and usually windy conditions are ready to greet the pros and make it that much tougher for them. With 16 AA Pros in Attendance, it made for some tight racing. but as usual, the true Pros were atop the podium. Here is how the Double A Marketing pros who were in the main event finished up:Wade Bootes  keeps on rolling with the good finished and El Paso sure went his way. On Saturday, Wade got a little bump from his friend Big Mac and had to fight back to place 2nd overall. On Sunday Wade was doing the pushing, as he pushed his way to 1st in AA. Wade is looking very strong in BMX this year, and if he keep this up, it will be very interesting come season end. Robert MacPherson has been a busy guy lately. Signing a sponsorship deal with To-Fiteness food products, Robert has had to help taste test some of their products, but they sure must make him go fast as he was right behind Wade in the AA main on Sunday with a 2nd place. Saturday was a different story, as Robert was hit with a huge gust of wind in the main that caused him to crash and to be knocked out for a few minutes. This guy sure does seem to come back from an injury stronger that before.

Daytona Supercross by Honda at Daytona International Speedway
Ricky Carmichael rode away with his sixth consecutive victory of the AMA season when he captured the checkered flag in Saturday's Daytona Supercross by Honda at Daytona International Speedway. Carmichael, who was born in Clearwater, Fla., and lives in Havana, Fla., took the hole shot on the start and dominated the 20-lap race for his second straight Daytona Supercross By Honda victory. "On this track, only the strong survive," Carmichael said. Rounding out the podium was Mike Larocco (South Bend, Ind., Honda) and Ezra Lusk (Acworth, Ga., Honda). Carmichael, whose margin of victory was 6.20 seconds, becomes only the fourth rider in the history of Supercross to win six races in a row. He joins four riders in being able to win the Daytona Supercross By Honda back to back. "I've had really good starts and that's what it takes to be consistent," said Carmichael, who picked up Kawasaki's seventh win in the Daytona Supercross By Honda. "I've had luck on my side and I've been riding very well. "While Carmichael was thrilled about his victory on Daytona's demanding course, he also has an eye on the big prize - Supercross title. McGrath, the series' defending champion, was never a factor in the race. The three-time winner of the Daytona Supercross By Honda finished sixth.

MONTEREY, Calif. - Boosted off-road and fun riding programs for the 2001 Mercury Sea Otter Classic powered by SRAM include two head-turning new events: the SoBe Mountain Cross 4-up contest; the VeloNews Speed Trials; an old favorite, the Mountain Bike Magazine MTB Fun Ride; and a bright new star, the Bicycling Magazine Road Fun Ride. In the background to these four events, road teams such as Mapei Quickstep, Lotto Addeco, Mercury Viatel and United States Postal Service will be disputing the Robert Talbott Elite Road Stage Race. Brian Lopes wins the ABA National in Ontario, California!
"This race was like a NORBA national. It is one of the national races that you can earn points towards the title. It had pretty much all the top guys there racing, not just So. Cal pros. I was actually really happy to win. That was my first real bmx race in like 2 or 3 years, so it felt good to let everyone know that could still do good in bmx if I want to. I had been practicing for a few weeks on my bmx bike and I felt good, but didn't know how good I would do until I got on the gate w/ all the top guys. The race was very muddy, which seemed to be an advantage for me. Not too many bmxers like the mud and had problems riding in it, but it didn't bother me. I put on some Maxxdaddy Maxxis tires and a THE fender onto my GT Speed Series Ultrabox bmx bike, and those few little changes helped me out a lot in the mud."

International Indoors of Tours 24 & 25 of February

by Denis Labigang

Last weekend took place in Tours the best and biggest indoor race of the year in Europe. Why?

  • Because the track was perfect, fast and technical,

  • Because there was 1184 riders from 10 different counties

  • Because there was 74 Elite riders and 6 US pro riders

  • Because there was about 10000 people in total for the two days

  • Because there was 310 riders for the Saturday open race

  • Because there was a perfect organization and timing

Florent Boutte, the winner of last year came specially from the USA to try to keep his title. For him it was his first race with the Diamondback colors in Europe and he was motivated to show to the French public and Diamondback what his is able to do before to go back in USA. At the Saturday Open race (310 rider, start with 1/64 finals), our youngest Elite men find the way to the final but crash in this one inside a collective crash in the first turn, and finished 7. Florent Boutte and Thierry Vandenkerckhove crash in semi final disappointed but ready for the official race of the Sunday. Sunday, Florent Boutte and Denis Labigang reached the final of the big Elite men race after an incredible semi final of the two Diamondback riders finishing 1 and 2. In the final although Denis Labigang was at the outside of the gate (line 8) he started in 3rd position and keep this position till the third turn when he tried to overtake for the second place but was squeezed in the inside and lost all his speed for the rest of the race and then finished in a 6th position. During this moment, Florent Boutte did a really bad start and was placed 8 at the first turn, As usually, Florent overtook one by one all the riders and almost the first one. Then in this exciting elite men final Florent finished side by side with the leader, but stay at the 2nd place for only some centimeters behind the winner Jason Richardson, the USA pro rider. Even if Florent finished 2nd and first European rider at this race, he show to the public how he is able to overtake his competitors with his incredible manual technique on the jump. Elodie Ajinca, the Elite women rider won easily her semi final but crash in the final finishing at a 7th place.
