Carmichael Wins Supercross At Rice-Eccles Stadium

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (April 28) - In the inaugural visit to Rice-Eccles Stadium, Ricky Carmichael, Havana, Fla., placed his Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki in first place for the 12th consecutive time in EA SPORTS Supercross Presented by Speed Stick. Ernesto Fonseca, who rides for Team Yamaha of Troy/Fox, won his second 125cc EA SPORTS Supercross title in Western Regional competition.

This event was one of the most spectacular races in the decade, and saw four different leaders and almost two dozen passes among the top five riders. Team Mazda Yamaha’s Jeremy McGrath earned his fifth SFX.com Holeshot with reigning U.S. Open Champion Carmichael and Kevin Windham, Centerville, Miss., in tow. The biggest surprise to the front runners was Team Yamaha’s Tim Ferry, Largo, Fla., who
won his first-ever heat race, as he worked into the lead on lap 5 after passing seven-time Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath. While Ferry was running out front, Carmichael dropped back to an uncommon fourth place. The momentum would return to Carmichael, who already has the 250cc championship clinched, on lap nine as he shifted into the lead over Ferry. Mike LaRocco repeated his hard-charging ways to place his Honda in third place late in the race. Carmichael won his 13th race of the year and moves one race away from tying McGrath’s all-time season win record (14) and consecutive win record (13). Ferry finished a career best, second place, and LaRocco was third. “I am happy to get this win under my belt,” said Carmichael. “That was a great race and the guy who lasted 20 laps is the one who was going to win this race. The elevation defiantly played a factor in this race. I got into a groove around lap 11 and got some breathing room.”
Nicolas Vouilloz wins Peille

La Grave de Peille, France April 24 - Peille is the traditional season opener for the European downhillers. From a local race seven years ago, the event as grown to become the first international downhill race of the season. This year again many riders from Great Britain, Netherlands, Italy or Switzerland came to the south of France for this event. The Vouilloz Racing Team was there, taking this opportunity to organize a three days camp before the race and test it's new machine the VProcess NV01. The competition was high in suspense Fabien Barel set a very fast time of 5'13" that gave

him the lead in the first heat. Nicolas was second, two seconds back to Barel. In the afternoon, despite a rough track, Nicolas was able  to improve his time and set an amazing 5'12" that gave him the lead. Fabien Barel, still very fast repeated his 5'13" and took second overall. Following was Mickael Pascal with 5'16". Julien Poomans took the 8th spot following his teammate Julien Camellini in 7th and first Junior 10 second ahead of the next junior. Nicolas Vouilloz seems very happy with this first win with the Team's new bike, the VProcess NV01 "When you build a new bike there is obviously a lot of  work to make the final race adjustments and tune up. We have spent 3 days on the field to make it work, and the results is pretty good I think. To win here for the first race of the season is always good news, the field is very competitive and the course is tough." "Nicolas clearly showed that the bike is fast, this means that the choices we have made this winter are good. The riders and the BOS staff support have been very efficient at working together, this is why after only three days on the field we have a competitive bike. Furthermore, we have been very pleased to see the performances of our new Tioga tires, this is the reward of a lot of work on both side." concludes Team Manger Stephane Girard.

ABA US Nationals Bakersfield, CA by Double A Marketing

The ABA held stop #8 of the 2001 Pro tour this past weekend in Bakersfield, CA and it looked at first to be a repeat of the Ontario mudbath, as weather was predicted for rain showers off an on all weekend. Late Friday night the sky opened up and poured, but the track soaked it all up and the racing was fast and dry come Saturday and Sunday. With this being the 3rd weekend in a row of Pro racing, the riders were ready to battle and go for the podium.

Warwick Stevenson kept the momentum rolling from last weekends huge win in Orlando, and one upped it in Bakersfield, as he was the winner of AA pro both days! With incredible leads down the first strait, Podge left all who watched in amazement and wondering how someone could be that fast! Warwick also placed 8th in Pro Open on Sunday. Jamie Staff kept his high level of consistency going in the AA pro class with appearances in the AA main both days. Jamie finished up the weekend with a 6th on Saturday and 4th on Sunday, and grabbed some more great points. Jamie currently sits #2 overall in both ABA and NBL pro points. Randy Stumpfhauser had another great weekend of pro racing as he dominated the pro cruiser class with a 1st place finish on Saturday and 2nd overall on Sunday. Randy also made the Pro Open main on Saturday and finished 7th overall. Randy has been busy winning pro mains and moving into his new home, but don't expect him to slow down one bit, he's ready to buy some new furniture and plans on using his race winnings to do so. Robert MacPherson was flying in Bakersfield as he made 3 out of 4 pro mains. On Saturday, after barely missing out making the AA main, Big Mac powered his way to a 3rd in Pro Open. On Sunday. Robert was in both the AA and Open mains, but a crash in the 2nd main caused him to bruise his leg and have to sit back and take an 8th overall in AA. When Pro Open was locked in the gate, Robert decided to push the limits of his injury and see what he could do, and placed 6th in Pro Open. Not bad, considering his injury. Thomas Allier considered this a bad weekend for himself. But you be the judge -- he made 3 out of 4 mains, placed 2nd in Pro Open on Saturday, 7th on Sunday and 5th in AA on Saturday. For most pros, that would be a great weekend, but Thomas has set a high standard for himself. Matt Hadan has been picking up speed and momentum as the season churns along. In Bakersfield, Matt turned in two more great main appearances with a 3rd and 4th in Pro Cruiser. Matt has been close for the Cruiser title before, but it may be 2001 where Matt gains the #1 Pro Title. Wade Bootes once again proved why he was the 2000 ABA #1 Pro with a great performance on Saturday that placed him in the AA main event. A 4th place finish overall helps him keep his ABA pro Points lead and may give him what he needs to retain his #1 pro title. Christophe Leveque is always in the AA main, and the US Nationals were no exception. On Saturday, Christophe once again showed off his power and skills and transferred into the AA main. When the 3 mains were finished, he placed 8th overall for the day and once again impressed the crowd.

Carmichael Clinches 250cc Championship
IRVING, Texas (April 21) - Round 14 EA SPORTS Supercross Presented by Speed Stick took Texas Stadium by storm with Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael, Havana, Fla., winning his first-ever 250cc EA SPORTS Supercross Championship. Team Red Bull/KTM’s Grant Langston, who is from South Africa, completed a dream in the 125cc Western Regional Supercross Series as he captured KTM’s first-ever EA SPORTS Supercross victory. The 250cc Main Event would witness Team Honda’s Ezra Lusk win the $1,000 SFX.com Holeshot Award, with the 2000 U.S. Open Champion Carmichael, 21, ready to start a battle for the championship. Within one lap, Carmichael moved passed Lusk but missed a shift before the ‘triple’ jump and handed the lead back to Lusk. However, Carmichael would make one final move on Lusk and ride on to win his first-ever 250cc EA SPORTS Supercross championship. Lusk finished second and Jeremy McGrath third. The win for Carmichael, his 11th in a row - 12th on the season, places him on schedule to tie McGrath’s season win record of 14 and wins in a row record of 13. Carmichael will chase down the records at Salt Lake City and Las Vegas in the next two weeks.“I got an excellent start, but Lusk kept on me for most of the race,” said Carmichael. “I finally made a pass on him and pulled away. The wins are great, but this number-one plate is awesome - I am so pumped.”“I have been here for 10 years and the only place I have to go is down,” said McGrath. “Carmichael had a great season.”

NBL Easter Classic, Orlando, FL April 14-15

Easter weekend always means some great NBL BMX racing, and the 2001 NBL Easter Classic brought us just that. With temperatures soaring in the 90’s and over 180 Motto's, Orlando was the place to be for BMX. After a week of fun and sun for most of the top pros, it was back to business on the racetrack.

Warwick Stevenson has been having a great 2001 season, and he kept the momentum rolling in Orlando. On Saturday, young Podge had a bit of trouble in AA Pro with a few crashes, but was in the Open main, placing 7th overall. On Sunday, Warwick turned things around and he was the fastest rider on the track with a 1st in Both AA and Pro Open. This guy just keeps on getting better and better. Jamie Staff can't be stopped. Jamie has been stacking up some great finishes and Orlando added 2 more for his NBL title quest. On Saturday, with the ESPN Show and the Sun Ringle Holeshot award on the line, Jamie Powered his way to not only the $500 Holeshot award, but also the overall AA Pro win. Come Sunday, Jamie was still on top of the AA class, but a crash kept him back to 3rd overall. Looks like Jamie will be going for a few #1 titles this year, NBL, ABA, UCI, X-Games….must be a Haro thing. Thomas Allier stuck to racing just AA pro both days and it paid off for him. On Saturday, Thomas tried to power his way around Staff, but had to settle for a 2nd place. On Sunday, Allier was looking to be able to take it all, but a bad gate and a lot of traffic held him up and back to 4th overall. Thomas still leads the NBL pro title chase, and looks to repeat his 2000 #1 title. Randy Stumpfhauser once again was flying in AA and brought home some great finishes. On Saturday, Stump Dog battled it out with the 8 best pros in AA and finished 5th overall and then went on to a 2nd in Pro Open. Sunday wasn't as good for Randy, as a crash while in 2nd in the first pro main out him out with a bruise knee, giving him 8th overall, but he will be back inaction next week in Bakersfield, Ca for the ABA Nationals. Florent Boutte made 3 mains out of 4 this weekend and had his best Pro weekend of 2001. Florent started off by placing 6th in Pro Open on Saturday. Florent turned it up on Sunday, by making both the AA main, placing 7th, and the Pro Open main, placing 6th. Look for Florent to be in a lot more mains this summer. Christophe Leveque had another great weekend in Florida with 3 out of 4 main event appearances. On Saturday, it was the Pro Open main where Christophe shined, with an amazing Holeshot and a huge win for the upcoming ESPN broadcast. AA Pro wasn't as nice, as 8th was the end result. On Sunday, Christophe barely missed out of repeating his Open performance, by placing 2nd.

Carmichael Makes It 10 In A Row - Pastrana Champion
PONTIAC, Mich. (April 7, 2001) - Ricky Carmichael, who rides for Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki, earned his 10th win in a row in the 250cc class of EA SPORTS Supercross, his 11th on the season, and moved one step closer to winning his first 250cc EA SPORTS Supercross championship. Team Suzuki’s Travis Pastrana captured his first 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross championship. The 250cc Main Event started out with another great start by Team Suzuki’s Kevin Windham (Centerville, Miss.), but Carmichael (Havana, Fla.) was right by his side and ready to bring home the checkered flag. As lap one
unfolded, Carmichael established the lead over Windham and Stephane Roncada (Menifee, Calif.). Carmichael was unstoppable, turning in incredible lap times and relishing a huge lead that would ensue. Team Honda’s Ezra Lusk (Acworth, Ga.) blasted his way through the pack and finished a solid second behind Carmichael. Mike LaRocco finished third. “I rode really smooth tonight,” said Carmichael. “This takes me one step closer to where I want to be in Vegas. Basically, the race was pretty mellow. I had great start and held on for the win. ” Knowing that he needed only a seventh-place finish or better to clinch his first 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross championship, Pastrana was hardly affected by his fifth-place start. Out front, Nathan Ramsey, who came into the event second in the series, led the way with Yamaha of Troy’s Nick Wey (Dewitt, Mich.) and Pro-Circuit/Kawasaki’s Mike Brown (Piney Flats, Tenn.) in tow for the fist few laps. However, Danny Carlson won the $500 SFX.com Holeshot Award but failed to stay up front. Pastrana, who was riding on an injured knee that he suffered in practice earlier today, efficiently made his way through the pack, passing Brown and Wey. Ramsey was his next target and he had seven laps to zero in. On lap 12, both Ramsey and Pastrana bobbled which put the battle on hold - for good. Ramsey won his second Main Event and Pastrana, who finished second, won the championship. Nick Wey finished third. “I couldn't’t be more excited,” Pastrana said. “All of the guys I raced against this year were awesome; they really challenged me. I was closing in on Nathan (Ramsey), but I got a little sideways and slowed down. I am looking forward to the East/West Shootout in Las Vegas.”

LITTLE BIKES THINKING BIG!!!

The latest RockShox product to hit the scene may leave you breathless, but not from any sweat-induced climbing, jumping, dirt-busting, aerobic workout earned from ridding high in the saddle.  That’s because these RockShox forks stand less than 2 inches tall. Hot on the tracks of fingerboards (those tiny skateboards that, for riding, were more suited for crickets than children) come Flick-Trix Mini Full Suspension Mountain Bike Toys.  Created by Spin Master Toys and RockShox, these little finger bikes have become a must-have for kids everywhere and, as they found out there in the office, some adults as well. Spin Master Toys and RockShox teamed-up last summer and began developing one of the most innovative die cast collectable toys in the industry.  The entire line is centered on using a fully active RockShox suspension system, and features licensed bike components. Some of the names included are Intense, Foes and Santa Cruz frames, Race Face cranks, Mavic wheels and Michelin tires, to name just a few.  Also included in this line, are the mountain Bike Tech Shop, and Maniac Mountain playset. In addition to gaining brand recognition with the next generation of mountain bikers, this partnership is the first venture to leverage the brand name through licensing, providing incremental revenue to our bottom line. Keep an eye out in the toy aisle for the RockShox logo featured prominently on the Flick-Tricks packaging, as well as upcoming television commercials airing on Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and other major networks.

They will be on site selling day passes, memberships, spares and refreshments from Wednesday and throughout the Easter Break (They are hoping to extend the opening hours from Monday 9th April). Weekend opening hours will remain the same 9.30am - 6pm, Saturday and Sunday. The Downhill Courses and the Duel will be fully open but the far end of the Cross-Country course will remain out of bounds for the duration of the F&M outbreak. The top section of the XC track and the Cross-Country Downhill are unaffected at present. We are also using the alternative push up path for the downhills, its steep but the plus side is you get to the top quicker (don't forget to bring plenty of drinking water). There are also a number disinfecting measures in place that must be complied with before you go riding. With 2 weeks to go the Pedalhounds Downhill planned for the 15th April still hangs in the balance, again Updates will keep you posted. If you are tempted to take a ride in unopened areas during the crisis just remember that areas that do become infected can remain off limits for up to 8 weeks, covering an area of between 8 - 15 miles. With no end of the crisis in sight that's the last thing needed on Aston Hill or your local trails. For further information call 01296 489729 or E-mail info@firecrestmtb.com

Carmichael’s Ninth Consecutive Win-Pastrana´s Fifth Win
St. Louis, Mo. - Round 12 of EA SPORTS Supercross Presented by Speed Stick brought in a record 57,872 fans to witness Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki’s Ricky Carmichael (Havana, Fla.) extend his winning streak to nine with a dominant win. Teenage superstar Travis Pastrana (Annapolis, Md.) made a triumphant comeback in the 125cc Eastern Regional Supercross Series to win his fifth race of the year and extend his series points lead. Team Amsoil/Dr. Martens/Competition Accessories/Honda-backed Mike LaRocco (South Bend, Ind.) had the start of his life, battling with Carmichael, who won the $1,000 SFX.com Holeshot Award, for the early lead. The duel didn’t last long as Carmichael took off into a blistering pace. Team Mazda Yamaha’s Jeremy McGrath, who was in third place, dropped off the pace after a crash. While riding in second place, LaRocco went down and broke his clutch, basically surrendering any chances of making it to the podium. Team Honda’s Ezra Lusk (Acworth, Ga.) and Team Suzuki’s Kevin Windham (Centerville, Miss.) engaged a heated race for second late in the race, which Windham eventually won. Carmichael won, Windham finished second, and Lusk Finished third. I had an awesome start tonight and that paid off,” said Carmichael. “It’s been nerve racking this year and there have been a lot of things happening, but I just try and win.”
